Andy at Mirkwood house for Retired Sheep provides a safe place for rescued sheep who have suffered abuse at the hands of humans, sheep who otherwise would have been sent to the slaughterhouse.

When visiting the Mirkwood home for Retired Sheep I met two of the older residents. Doris who is 9 years old, and Lavender Brown 12 years old. Lavander recently passed away in her sleep, peacefully, and in comfort, how nature intended.
The care, love and warmth Andy shows to his sheep is so heartwarming and I was genuinely taken back by his kindness to them. However, I was saddened by this, saddened that I live in a world where I don't see this love extended to animals on a daily basis.

It also struck me I had NEVER seen an older sheep before.
Why? Because once Sheep get to the end of their 'deemed usefulness' they get sent to slaughter by their owners. Is this really the world we are living in?
Is this really the way of life we are supporting?

Every animal from the smallest mouse to the largest elephant, has value and the right to live a long, happy, healthy life free of suffering. And it is up to us to make it happen!
